Table of Contents
Set right after the events of Season 2, this fic begins as Colin returns from his travels—only to find Penelope drunk and unrecognizably bold at Lady Danbury’s ball. What follows? A scandal no one saw coming, a Ton ready to gossip, and two families scrambling to manage the fallout. When Lady Whistledown loses control, can anything ever go back to the way it was?

Why you have to read it

Looking for a short, satisfying Polin read you can devour in one evening? This is it.
Regency-era drunk Penelope is a vibe all on its own 🍷—and watching how the Ton (and a few Bridgertons) react to the chaos is just… chef’s kiss. Let’s just say Kate and Benedict are absolutely thriving in their spectator roles. Popcorn, anyone 🍿?

The romance is sweet, sincere, and full of heart. Add to that a compelling setup, sharp writing, and a tone that balances tenderness and humor beautifully — it’s hard not to fall in love with this fic.

It has everything we love:

  • One drunken ball + one scandal = chaos
  • Penelope unfiltered and unforgettable
  • Colin trying to be composed… and failing
  • A reputation in ruins
  • Bridgertons & Featheringtons in damage control
  • All roads leading to a marriage proposal (obviously)

Highly bingeable, surprisingly emotional, and effortlessly charming. One of those “saved to reread later” kind of gems.

Author Summary

Penelope woke up in her bed feeling the biggest headache she had ever experienced in her life. She could not understand why people liked alcohol so much, it tasted horrible, it made feel dizzy and vulnerable and the next day she felt she was going to die. “PENELOPE FEATHERINGTON!!!” She heard her mother calling for her. Portia Featherington enter her bedroom with her face red of anger. She dropped a paper in Penelope’s lap. “What is the meaning of this!?” Her mother asked. Penelope looked at the paper confused, it was the newspaper of Lady Whistledown. “I would like to end this edition with probably the most scandalous thing that happened in last night’s ball, Penelope Featherington had a change on her appearance, I would not blame you dear reader for not noticing it, this author often forgets her existence, however Colin Bridgerton apparently did notice it, the two of them were seen in a dark corner, outside Lady’s Danbury exchanging something more than their regards.”
